Thank you for your interest in finding out more about IDEATE High Academy. id8 High is a free, internationally awarded innovative, public urban high school and an integral part of the highly successful Urban Discovery Academy family. At id8 High, you will discover an educational program that fosters creativity and diversity and challenges students academically with design thinking learning rooted in social responsibility. If you seek this experience for your student, we invite you to explore the id8 experience.

With our recent announcement of our permanent home to be located at the Design Thinking Education Center of San Diego, located at 1400 Park Blvd., we have reopened registration and add capacity for the 2019-2020 school year. You can register for this school year by contacting us at sdutcher@ideatehighacademy.com or by stopping by our front office at 1400 Park Blvd., San Diego, CA, 92101.

Applications for the 2020-2021 school year are open now! 
Admissions are determined by a computerized lottery. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on February 28, 2020. Applicants will be informed of lottery results by early March. All information provided in this application is subject to verification. Click here to apply.

Verification of Application Information and Successful Completion of the Previous Grade

Initial admissions decisions are conditional. In order to reserve the position prior to full registration, admitted applicants will be required to submit documents confirming zip code of residence, student age as well as successful completion of the previous grade level to the Admissions Office before the deadline of 1:00pm March 16th, 2020. Applicants who do not submit the required documents by the deadlines will forfeit their admission.

With the recent announcement of our schools permanent home, we have have open student enrollment opportunities. Please contact sdutcher@ideatehighacademy with enrollment request. All applications will be prioritized in the order received, with considerations for siblings attending our schools and if you live in the downtown area. After an offer of acceptance is made, you will have 72 hours to respond.

Lottery Information

Priorities
  • Urban Discovery Schools provide a sibling preference to applicants who are siblings of students currently attending Urban Discovery Academy or IDEATE High Academy.
  • Urban Discovery Schools provide an employee preference to applicants who are children of employees currently employed by Urban Discovery Academy or IDEATE High Academy.
  • Urban Discovery Schools provide a priority preference to applicants whose parents or guardians are currently employed within the 92101 zip code.

Urban Discovery Schools defines siblings as children who: (a) Are biologically related as siblings by one or two shared parents; OR (b) Are related as step-siblings by parent marriage; OR (c) Are related as siblings through formal adoption or formal court ordered guardianship. (A Power of Attorney does not suffice for this purpose.); OR (d) Children living in the same household

In order to participate in the lottery, the following conditions must be satisfied:
  1. A completed application must be submitted by the deadline. You can apply online at www.urbansd.com, click on Enroll Today or mail your application to:

  2. Submit proof of eligibility in the National School Lunch Program (if applicable). Proof can be emailed to admissions@urbansd.com

FREQUENTLY ASKED ADMISSION QUESTIONS

When to apply for IDEATE High Academy and what are the deadlines for completing the admissions process?

In order for your student to receive priority consideration for admissions, his/her file must be submitted  by February 28, 2019 at 4pm. Any applications received after this date will be prioritized in the order received and added to the waitlist if applicable.

Are there any costs involved in applying to id8 High?

IDEATE High Academy and Urban Discovery Academy are FREE public schools; there is no cost for admission.

Do families with an affiliation to Urban Discovery Academy have an advantage in the admissions process?

Students continuing enrollment following 8th grade at Urban Discovery Academy are given priority enrollment as returning students so long as application deadlines are followed.

What are the lottery preferences?

Priority admission is given to the following students:

  •      Returning or existing students – guaranteed admission if eligible for promotion from their prior grade;
  •      Siblings of returning or existing students – guaranteed admission if space is available at the appropriate grade;
  •      Children of faculty of the Urban Discovery Academy;
  •      Pupils residing in the 92101 zip code area;
  •      Students residing in the Sherman Elementary school boundaries;
  •      All other pupils who reside in San Diego Unified School District;
  •      All other students permitted by law.

When will we find out if we got into id8 High?

Parents or Guardians of students who are selected in the lottery will be notified by email the day of the lottery. All other parents will receive an email with their waiting list number.

Should we continue to apply if we don’t get in the first year?

To remain in consideration for enrollment the following year, you must re-apply every year if your child is not accepted.

If all seats are filled during the initial lottery, remaining students will be placed on a waitlist. Any applications received for available seats following the lottery date will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
