Thank you for your interest in finding out more about IDEATE High Academy. id8 High is a free, dynamic public, charter high school and an integral part of the highly successful Urban Discovery Academy family. At id8 High, you will discover an educational program that fosters creativity and diversity and challenges students academically with project-based learning rooted in social responsibility. If you seek this experience for your student, we invite you to explore the Id8 experience.

Applications for the 2018-2019 school year are now available. All applications received between October 1, 2017 and February 28, 2018 at 4:00pm are entered into the lottery.

We invite you to visit our campus in downtown San Diego or participate in one of our exhibitions or prospective student information sessions.

Information sessions are scheduled on the following dates/times in 2018:

  • Tuesday, January 9, at 6:00pm
  • Tuesday, January 30, at 6:00pm
  • Monday, February 12, at 6:00pm
  • Monday, March 12, at 6:00pm

Academic Year 2018 - 2019

In order for your student to receive priority consideration for admissions, his/her file must be submitted through SchoolMint by February 28, 2018 at 4pm. Any applications received after this date will be prioritized in the order received and added to the waitlist if applicable.

Lottery Information

  • Students who are new to Urban Discovery Academy/IDEATE High Academy must complete a new student application form through SchoolMint; enrollment applications do not roll over and must be submitted each school year.
  • The UDA and IDEATE lottery will be held on March 16, 2018, at 9:00am at Urban Discovery Academy (840 14th Street, San Diego CA 92101).
  • If you are applying for multiple children, please submit one application per child and indicate any sibling name(s) and grade(s) on the sibling line on EACH form, including both UDA and IDEATE siblings. This step is very important as siblings get priority in the lottery.
  • All parents who are selected in the lottery will be notified by email the day of the lottery. All other parents will receive an email with their waiting list number.
  • You must re-apply every year if your child is not accepted.

When to apply for IDEATE High Academy and what are the deadlines for completing the admissions process?

Are there any costs involved in applying to id8 High?

IDEATE High Academy and Urban Discovery Academy are FREE public charter schools; there is no cost for admission.

Do families with an affiliation to Urban Discovery Academy have an advantage in the admissions process?

Students continuing enrollment following 8th grade at Urban Discovery Academy are given priority enrollment as returning students so long as application deadlines are followed.

What are the lottery preferences?

Priority admission is given to the following students:

  •      Returning or existing students – guaranteed admission if eligible for promotion from their prior grade;
  •      Siblings of returning or existing students – guaranteed admission if space is available at the appropriate grade;
  •      Children of faculty of the Urban Discovery Academy;
  •      Pupils residing in the 92101 zip code area;
  •      Students residing in the Sherman Elementary school boundaries;
  •      All other pupils who reside in San Diego Unified School District;
  •      All other students permitted by law.

When will we find out if we got into id8 High?

Parents or Guardians of students who are selected in the lottery will be notified by email the day of the lottery. All other parents will receive an email with their waiting list number.

Should we continue to apply if we don’t get in the first year?

To remain in consideration for enrollment the following year, you must re-apply every year if your child is not accepted.

If all seats are filled during the initial lottery, remaining students will be placed on a waitlist. Any applications received for available seats following the lottery date will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
